Good evening folks
Hope you’re all feeling refreshed after the weekend…and it’s not over yet
I apologise for my lack of blogs lately, life has been a little hectic to say the least.
My most exciting news is that I’m back in the studio again and have finally started laying down track for my new album which I’m hoping to release later in the year. I’m recording it with the wonderful Thomas Donoghue at Broderick’s Studios Kilkenny and to say I’m ecstatic is an understatement.
I had a minor set back in that I had to have a couple of wisdom teeth removed. It was a little frightening as there was a possibility of some nerve damage due to the position of the tooth. As a gal who’s business depends on her voice this was horrendous to hear. Thankfully I had an amazing dental surgeon, Darren McCourt in Dalkey and the procedure couldn’t have gone better. I found being unable to talk for a few days the most difficult thing about the whole episode and dying to get back into the studio.
I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be one of the headliners on some incredible European Festivals this July & August including Festdobrérybníky Slovakia & Prázdniny v Telci Festival Czech Republic alongside our very own Glen Hansard. Dates are being added daily so keep an eye out here a full list of dates and details. I’ll be accompanied by my brother John Parle (percussion) & Slovakian dobro player Milan Benkovi?.
Pictured below with the bro and our great friend festival organiser Cali.
I popped up to Belfast recently to appear on NVTV Belfast’s The Big Interview with a great old pal Robin Elliott. Robin and I have known each other for over 10 years and I was so happy with the interview. It really helps when it’s somebody that you know & trust who is doing the interviewing. Watch full interview and performance below
So what’s coming up?

So for now I’ll leave you as I’m getting packed to spend a few days away in Inis Mor…my first time and I can’t wait.

Have you ever wanted to write a song? Well Wicklownews.net and Luan Parle have joined forces to bring a 5 week songwriting workshop course exclusively to the wicklownews.net Head Quarters commencing this October. If you would like to put your name forward for the workshop please send your name and age to [email protected] and you will be contacted shortly. Places are limited so don’t delay.
Over the past 10 years, Luan has been bringing songwriting & performance workshops to people of all ages around Ireland through her own company LPR Records, through IMRO, Music Generation, The International Literature Festival Dublin among other organisations.
Luan held a songwriting workshop with the transition year girls from Presentation Secondary School Clonmel in association with IMRO for RTE’s Big Music Week some years back. The song written during the workshop titled ‘My Hero’ became a great success and was released for St Vincent De Paul Charity two weeks before Christmas reaching number 7 in the Irish charts. Paddy Power was even taking bets for a Christmas number 1. You can watch the video below…
The workshop is one hour per week for 5 weeks and focuses on songwriting & performance. The workshop participants will also learn about the day to day workings of the music industry from a professional musician and receive guidance if looking to pursue a career in music.
RTE’s Nationwide recently filmed and covered one of Luan’s songwriting workshops which will be aired at a future date.
In April of this year Luan brought 5 songwriting workshops in association with IMRO to 5 secondary schools around the country including CCM in Wicklow. She was so impressed by the song written during the workshop that she organised for producer Gavin Ralston to visit the school and record the song with the students. Luan released the song as a single through her own record label LPR Records on September 22nd 2017 and donating all proceeds to The Irish Heart Foundation for prevention of Heart Attacks and Stroke and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. The single was launched by Minister For Health Simon Harris, went straight to no,1 in iTunes and no.10 in the official single download charts Friday September 29th.

So I’ve been meaning to write this for a long time and have only just found time to sit down and do it!!!
I have had the most amazing summer this year, touring Finland, Germany and most recently Slovakia.
At the start of June, Clive & I flew over to Finland for the second time this year to play The Country and Folk Festival in beautiful Heinola alongside our pal Mundy and very special guests. We had a fabulous time seeing all our Finnish & Irish friends and played a couple of tunes onstage with Mundy. You can watch a short clip here of ‘Dead Flowers’
Clive & I flew from Helsinki airport to Düsseldorf Airport to embark on our 11 date tour of Germany. It was my first time in Germany so I was extremely excited. We met our booking agent the wonderful Petra and her lovely husband Dirk and what a friendship was formed. We had the most amazing tour, saw some incredible places and made lifelong friends, with plans to return in November 2018.
During our show at the incredible Synagoge Ahrweiler we had the great pleasure of Dirk Eisenburger joining us onstage to perform Ghost. It was such a treat…Petra managed to capture the performance on her iPhone which you can watch below…
I have uploaded some pictures below from the trip…
After Germany my brother John & I returned once again to Slovakia to headline The FestDobréRybníky. 9 years ago I met festival promoter and my great friend Cali when I played his festival FestDobréBohunice for the first time and have been returning to play ever since. In recent years, John has been joining me onstage which has been incredible and every year we make wonderful new friends. This year, performed live on Slovakia’s biggest TV show Televízia Markíza on the breakfast show Teleráno. You can watch the interview & live performance below..
I have included a few pictures from the trip below..
I had to upload this video, although I’m sure the boys don’t even remember me taking it
Another highlight from our trip to Slovakia was meeting the wonderfully talented Laura Peterson. Laura is phenomenal singer and joined us onstage for 3 songs at Hotel Kristina, Dubnica.. I have to also mention that Laura only heard the songs the morning before the show.
Cali managed to capture Laura performing Free with with us on his iPhone below…
After what has been a hectic year, I am taking a little time out now to continue working on my new album. I have a couple of other exciting projects that I will be working on also including the release of ‘Your Love Still Guides My Way’, a song that was written during one of my IMRO songwriting workshops in April with students of Coláiste Chill Mhantáin . The song will be released as a single this September 22nd with all proceeds going to The Irish Heart Foundation & also The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
I am also very excited to announce that I’ll be performing at the Christy Hennessy Festival in Tralee County Kerry November 03rd alongside some of Ireland’s greatest talents so keep an eye out for upcoming events and projects.
Chat soon amigos….
Hope you’re all enjoying the August bank holiday weekend in Ireland!!!
With all my travels of late I’m a little behind on my blogs, but over the coming weeks I’ll get on top of that and post up all the latest including my recent tours of Finland, Germany & Slovakia.
Just before I left for Slovakia I popped into Newstalk for a chat and live performance with the lovely Bobby Kerr. I have uploaded one of the songs which I performed live on the programme titled ‘Grass Is Blue’ below which I hope you enjoy.
